The Abigail Jenks Memorial Ruck Race is a slightly less than 3m track event held at Gavin Park at 9 am on Meorial Day, May 27. The event aims to remember the sacrifice of all those who died in the line of duty, especially Specialist 4th Class Abigail Jenks, a town of Wilton resident and Saratoga Springs class of 2019 graduate. Proceeds go towards the Abigail Jenks Scholarship at Saratoga High school, awarded to graduating seniors enlisting into the Military, and the Veterans Community Housing Coalition, a local organization that advocates for veterans seeking housing. There are two tickets, a racer and non-racer ticket. Both include a T-shirt, but to race you must be prepared with either a ruck sack, weighted backpack, or weighted vest. For reference, the Army standard is 35 pounds. Non-racer tickets are designated for those who wish not to carry the extra weight. The race will begin at the large pavillion after a prayer service, National Anthem performance, and some words from Abigail's mother. Refreshments will be available before and after the race.
