2020 Charity of Choice
Three charities of choice have been designated to receive a portion of the 2020 race proceeds, and you and your teammates are invited to lend your support them.
IPH, formerly Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, was originally created in 1984 as a non-denominational provider of emergency shelter for single adults. IPH has since expanded its programs to offer a comprehensive array of services for homeless and at-risk individuals and families. IPH’s Albany Ambassador Program is an employment program that gives homeless or formerly homeless people an opportunity to earn an income and build professional and life skills, relationships, a sense of community, and financial stability while receiving support from IPH staff. Albany Ambassadors are responsible for greeting patrons, providing directions, answering questions, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at local arts and business venues.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region (RMHC-CR) promotes the health, development, and well-being of children and their families. Funds received from the 2020 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will benefit our Hospitality Cart at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. The cart serves as an extension of the Ronald McDonald Family Room, bringing free drinks, snacks, toys, games, and hygiene products to the bedside of seriously ill or injured children. Staffed by dedicated volunteers, it provides sustenance and helps to relieve the stress, discomfort, and monotony of hospitalization while allowing children and their families to remain close to their caregivers.
The RED Bookshelf (TRB) has developed a unique literacy model to ensure all children in Albany, NY are inspired to read and have books of their own at home, regardless of family income. To serve 14,000 children in the city, we will collect and process 60,000 books in 2020, partnering with community volunteers and groups throughout the Capital Region to meet this need. Funds received from the 2020 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will be used to support our summer program, Reading is Our Right, which incorporates youth workforce readiness, reading at partner camps, and mobile support at community events around the city. This program brings together partners who will encourage and facilitate reading throughout the summer, preventing the loss of literacy skills that can occur during the summer months.
About the Charities of Choice
Annually, the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC) accepts applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that wish to be selected as a CDPHP® Workforce Team Challenge Charity of Choice. The selected charities of choice receive a donation from CDPHP and HMRRC, as well as direct contributions from race participants. The selected charities are expected to participate in CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge planning meetings, day-of race activities, and post-event media opportunities.
If your organization meets the eligibility requirements, we hope to hear from you during the 2021 Charity of Choice application process. Applications, eligibility criteria, and guidelines for consideration will be available in early December.
